We blogged about the opening of the TIFF Bell Lightbox just a year ago and now here we are in the midst of TIFF and it shines so brightly as part of the festivities. The city comes alive with hosting those who seem larger than life, and those who while not in the spotlight, bring us films that move, challenge, disturb and entertain us.
Along with the films, a huge part of the celebrations are the TIFF parties. We had a great time at the Takeover at the Hazelton party hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos and CBC LIVE.
A number of CBC luminaries were there, including Dragons’ Den host Dianne Buckner, CBC’s Heather Hiscox and Carole MacNeil, CBC’s radio Q host Jian Ghomeshi, and many more. And the Hazelton Takeover became one of the hotspots of the festival for celebrity partiers including Mad Men’s Don Draper Jon Hamm, Woody Harrelson, Rob Lowe, Johnny Rotten, Sol Guy and K’Naan.
The party was a great reflection of the community of CBC LIVE, encouraging varied conversations ranging from films, to new TV seasons, to Rob Ford’s politics and who’s who. It was incredible to feel the energy in the rooms and the outdoor patio on a beautiful night.
George and his team, as always, were gracious hosts, and the memorable review I saw of the night was a tweet, posted near dawn, saying it ended on a high note with George’s appreciation and thanks to everyone on the team who helped pull it all together.
George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight returns to its hour long format and new season Monday September 19th on CBC.
